Keywords: Botany

This image is related to Schaaf number 573.

The original botanical illustration is from Edwards's Botanical Register (April 1843, vol. 29, plate 19). It is identified there as ... , however the current name of this plant is Campanula lusitanica L.

As the original illustration was published in April 1843, Talbot's photograph of it must have been taken some time after that date.

There is a fragment of decorative wallpaper just visible behind the bottom corner of the botanical illustration. This same patterned wallpaper appears elsewhere in Talbot's oeuvre, either to act as a protective lining or as an aid to focussing the image in camera. Further fragments can be seen in the likes of Schaaf numbers 5015 and 456.
