This object is part of Schaaf no. 4761

Copy of a painting, "Our Lady of Bethlehem" by Alonso Cano on an easel with backdrop

The artwork photographed is an oil painting by José Roldán y Martínez (1808-1871), which is in turn a copy after the original oil painting by Alonso Cano (1601-1667). The original by Cano is in the Cathedral of Seville. The later copy by Martínez was formerly in the Stirling Maxwell Collection, Glasgow.

Here the photographer has allowed us to see the original artwork set up on an easel so that it can be photographed. To see the finished results of the photography session where the camera has been placed closer to the painting, to concentrate on the artwork and exclude it's surroundings, see Schaaf number 4429.
