The engraving is a copy of an oil painting of Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Victoria, Princess Royal. The original oil painting dates from 1842 when she was two years old and is held by the Royal Collection Trust (inventory number RCIN 403056). Talbot's photograph of the engraving must therefore have been taken some time after 1842.
