Copy of a botanical illustration of an orchid, by Sarah-Ann Drake

The original botanical illustration is from,  Edwards's Botanical Register (plate 18, vol. 29, 1843).  The orchid is identified there as Humboldt's peristeria (Gyrandria monandria), however the current name for this orchid is Acineta superba (Kunth).  The skilled artist who produced the original illustration was Sarah-Ann Drake.  As the original illustration was published in April 1843, Talbot's photograph of it must have been taken some time after that date.
