This object is part of Schaaf no. 727

Copy of an etching, frontispiece to "Le Antichita Albano e Castel Gandolfo" by Luigi Rossini, 1826

Location: Rome

Keywords: Italy Architecture

This image is related to variants by Talbot, sometimes entitled, "reduced in size in Camera Obscura from Italian work". The Italian work referred to is the frontispiece to, "Antichita di Albano, nel quate sone raccolti molti frammenti a gran Porta e della rotonda di Albano composta di fram. antichita", 1826.

The original artwork Talbot photographed measured 50.4 cm x 42.8 cm, which is much larger than the resulting photographic copies Talbot produced. The "reduction" happened in camera. By using a camera that held pieces of sensitised paper that were smaller than the original artwork, and placing the camera just far away enough to photograph the original etching, the result was a smaller or reduced photographic copy.
