Two statuettes of "Dancing Fishermen" by Francisque-Joseph Duret

Keywords: Sculpture

Francisque-Joseph Duret (1804-1865) was a French sculptor whose preferred medium was bronze. The full and correct title for this pair of statuettes is, "Young Fishermen Dancing the Tarantella". One fisherman is playing a tambourine, while the other is playing castanets, although the statuette Talbot photographed appears to have lost its tambourine. Although Duret's favoured medium was bronze, its not certain that the statuettes Talbot photographed were made of bronze.
