Lady Elisabeth is pictured wearing a checked dress. Her face is partly obscured by the shadow cast by her bonnet in the sunlight.
A note, typed by Harold White, to accompany this image suggests, "Calotype portrait of Lady Elisabeth Feilding taken on August 21st 1841 by her son, W.H.Fox Talbot. [sic] Enclosed is also a print made from the negative though the camera, and an enlargement from a copy negative. The original negative, fist 'fixed' on pot. iodide [potassium iodide], had bleached. Was redeveloped and fixed in hypo only." It is not clear if the date suggested by White is accurate.
