This view has hardly altered since it was photographed by Calvert Richard Jones in the nineteenth century.

Mechelen is a city in the province of Antwerp, in Flanders, Belgium. Traditionally, the French name for the city is, Malines, while its name in English was, Mechlin.

The medieval bridge in the photograph is the "Hoogbrug", or High Bridge, which has crossed the river Dijle since it's construction in the year, 1220. The Gothic tower in the distance belongs to, Sint-Romboutskathedraal (Saint Rumbold's Cathedral).
